Hukun Hurur running for Ward 1 council seat

Hukun Hurur is originally from Ethiopia and has lived the last 14 years in Fort McMurray.  He has raised his family here and in making the city their home he feels he knows the issues.

“I spent a lot of years volunteering so I know what the city needs in the future for the next generation so that’s why I am running for city council,” said Hurur.

With his previous experience as a community organizer for visible minorities in Ontario and based on his work with the YMCA at the immigration service Hurur told MyMcMurray that he has the abilities to make a good councillor for Ward 1.

“There are a lot of tough challenges, post fire but I am focusing on community empowerment, diversity and eliminating poverty,” said Hurur.

Through collaboration between the local community and council Hurur believes life can be better in Fort McMurray.

More on Hurur’s platform can be found on his website.

Residents will head to the polls on Oct. 16 and Ward 1 constituents will vote in six councillors out of the 13 running.
